Currently at Silk Fields, there are eleven hens of varying species. Five of the hens are a few years older, while the other six have just started laying eggs. Over the time that they have been at Silk Fields, they have become much calmer around humans, and won't be very afraid of people near them. Nevertheless, they are still chickens and won't usually come running up to people (unless food is involved, of course!).
The adult chickens (such as the ones pictured left) ideally would lay about five eggs per day. As of right now however, the younger hens are not laying very much. However, the number of eggs we are receiving should pick up a lot as the younger hens will grow up and start laying more per day. Because of the different varieties of chickens living at our farm, we have beautiful multicolored eggs. On occasion, we will give away some of our farm-fresh eggs- see below for photos and info! |
