Why bees?

Bees, although not very similar to the other species on the farm, are a critical and important part of our environment. They do an amazing job of pollinating all our local species of plants while producing delicious honey for Silk Fields.

The bees at Silk Fields- an overview

The bees at Silk Fields are kept in multiple hives, now give or take eleven, on a beaten trail from the farm to the Arlington Reservoir! They produce honey throughout the year, which is typically collected in the springtime by use of a honey spinner.

What is a honey spinner?

A honey spinner is a large metal cylinder that uses centrifugal force to fling honey out of the comb and ultimately to the bottom of the spinner. This process is done after collecting the honey comb, and does not cause any damage to the bees or their hives.
